Axel Salto

1920 — 2006

Considered among the greats of Danish designers, Axel Salto applied his design aesthetic to sculptural rather than functional objects.  His inspirations ranged from seed rows and hives to alphabets.  He is known for his organic shapes and his embrace of ornamental textures and patterns, which went against the functionalist grain.  Salto is generally noted for his embrace of bright colors and other vivacious accents, in contrast to the muted palette and austerity of many of his peers.
