Hans Wegner

Hans Wegner is perhaps Denmark’s best-known furniture designer. Trained as a wood craftsman from age 14, he went on to redefine the application of modernist sensibilities to influences such as Ming Dynasty Chinese woodwork. With a focus on elegance over ornament, Wegner created pieces that were both idiosyncratic and suited to mass-production –and was innovative in materials well beyond wood, particularly steel.
