Poul Volther

1923 — 2001

Poul Volther bypassed passing trends in the design community, concentrating on his crafting practice.  He was interested in the use of cushions to define the shape of pieces, designing his notable “Pyramid chair” in 1953, which contained foam and cloth elements.  The simpler oval cushion of the “Corona chair” led the chair to be his best-remembered piece, which flowered into the tiered “Corona Spectrum chair.”
