Collection: Kurt Østervig

1912 - 1986

First educated as a ship-building engineer, he went on to surmount engineering and design challenges for objects as varied as hotels, ships, chairs, movie theaters, and even nursing homes.  He was a master of angles, and nested chairs, who blithely combined futuristic and classical shapes.  His material of choice was Oak, which he often combined with leather.  His distinctive style of both design and sketches led to an exhibition at MOMA.
