Philip Arctander
1916 — 1994
Later an advisor to the UN, architect Philip Arctander’s created a handful of early furniture work. This included a chair design that has only recently been attributed to Arctander: the “Clam chair.” Prior to that, it appeared occasionally at auction, and was dubbed the “Danish Mystery chair,” while others had attributed it to Martin Olsen. A former magazine editor recently revealed the attribution, and it was renamed the ‘Muslingestole’ or clam chair for its rounded shape.
